John Barbee

son of John and Esther (Herndon) Barbee

JOHN BARBEE, son of JOHN and ESTHER, was born 4 June 1810, d 23 Aug 1880. He was only 8 years old when his father died in Orange Co., NC. 27 Nov 1827 (aged 17!) to Sally Roberts. His first cousin Wm. R. Herndon was his bondsman. JOHN and SALLY BARBEE are buried at 825 Ellis Road near Durham, NC. This is supposed to be their families homeplace. They had 9 children. Information about the descendants was furnished by Robert Lee Barbee of Houston, Texas, by obituaries, and Nannie Mae Herndon.

1. SARAH JANE BARBEE (b 28 Feb 1831; d 25 May 1901) m in Orange, 10 Feb 1848 Oswald Kinion Proctor. Bondsmen were M.A. Angier and John D. Carlton. O.K. Proctor was killed in the Civil War. He and SARAH JANE had 6 children. (O Kinyan Proctor died at Goldsboro 18 Apr 1863. He had enlisted on the 4 Feb 1863)

Here are a few death certificates to round out my searches. There are more records, my space is limited, but you can do a more through job.

Read this first death certificate and notice that John was said to have been buried in Maplewood Cemetery but he is listed in Woodlawn Cemetery as having been buried there. Interesting.
